Job summary

City of Burlington, NC seeks a Civil Engineer to support the Water Resources Stormwater Division in designing CIP projects and ensuring NPDES Phase II compliance.

The role requires independent engineering judgment, coordination with regulators and contractors, and experience in hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater infrastructure. A Bachelor's in Civil/Environmental Engineering and a NC PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field.
• Three years of experience in stormwater engineering design and project management.
• Knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater infrastructure.
• Familiarity with state/federal stormwater regulations and City code.

Responsibilities

• Design stormwater CIP projects and prepare bid/contract docs.
• Review plans for SCMs and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate with regulators, consultants, and City departments.
• Provide technical guidance to contractors and the public.
• Utilize engineering software to model watershed runoff and pipe capacity.
