Job summary

City of Durham is seeking a Principal Engineer to oversee the Stormwater Review Group within the Development Infrastructure Division. The role focuses on ensuring stormwater compliance through independent plan reviews, with strong hydrology, hydraulics, and SCM knowledge.

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
Five years of related engineering experience.
North Carolina Professional Engineer Registration or equivalent.
Valid NC Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

Manage projects and contracts within the Development Infrastructure Division.
Oversee data collection, analyses, and engineering studies for stormwater projects.
Conduct field inspections of SCMs and ensure regulatory compliance.
Review engineering plans, bids, and design submittals; prepare reports and ordinances.
Coordinate public meetings and provide technical guidance to departments and partners.
