Job summary

City of Winston-Salem is seeking a skilled environmental inspector to enforce stormwater ordinances, perform inspections, sampling, and data analysis in support of the NPDES permit.

The role requires ArcGIS proficiency, field sampling, and the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders while ensuring compliance and safety.

Candidates should have a bachelor's degree and several years of relevant experience; valid driver's license and SCM certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in environmental science, geography, biology, or engineering, or equivalent.
• 3–4 years field experience in inspection principles and stormwater enforcement.
• Experience with stormwater permits and program evaluation.
• Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS and GPS concepts.

Responsibilities

• Inspect industrial facilities with stormwater discharge permits.
• Enforce illicit discharge detection and elimination ordinances.
• Perform water sampling and enter QA/QC data per NPDES permits.
• Create maps in ArcGIS for stormwater data for internal/external customers.
• Educate internal and external customers on stormwater issues and serve as liaison.
• Oversee SPPP creation and implementation for municipal operations.
