Job Description Summary

Under general supervision, processes University mail for defined routes. Prepares incoming mail for distribution and processes outgoing mail. This includes distribution and collection of mail, determining and affixing postage, and maintaining records on postage, registered and accountable mail and packages. Also responsible for receiving, storing, issuing, pick-up and delivery, accountability and security of resale maintenance inventory. Uses knowledge gained working with AIM systems, and knowledge of procurement and purchasing policies and regulations to provide logistical service and support to assigned customers by determining availability and best sources for necessary materials.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift and carry mail bags and boxes up to 70 lbs.; to communicate effectively; to understand and follow directions; operate standard office equipment and postal services machines; to perform extensive standing and walking. Ability to perform extensive standing, walking, and climbing; to lift, transport and stock assigned supplies and materials; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.

Standard Work Hours

Mon-Fri, 7:30AM-4:00PM. This position is nonessential and not telework eligible.

Must possess and maintain a valid Class C Driver’s license or equivalent with fewer than 6 points.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE: Two years related work experience.

OTHER: REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: General knowledge of the procedures and practices of issuing and storing supplies, materials, and equipment. Skill in operating warehouse material handling equipment. Ability to perform basic mathematics; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to follow directions; to provide guidance and instruction to others; to operate computers and other standard office equipment; to establish and maintain effective work relationships; to perform extensive standing, walking, and climbing; to lift, transport and stock assigned supplies and materials; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.

OTHER: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Conditions of Employment

Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job. A non-commercial Class C or Commercial Class B or equivalent driver’s license valid in the State of Maryland may be required. If required to obtain a Commercial Driver's License, employees will be subjected to drug and alcohol education and testing as required under Federal Highway Administration and the State of Maryland regulations.
