Job summary

Meijer in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking an experienced retail operations leader to support the Store Director in running day-to-day store activities. You will lead and develop a high-performing team, drive profitability, and ensure exceptional customer service, merchandising, and safety standards.

You will oversee talent development, daily communication, and strategic initiatives to enhance shopping experiences while aligning with Meijer’s values and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of retail/grocery/operations management/customer service experience.
• 4+ years of progressive leadership experience.
• Passion to lead those in span of care while providing industry leading service.
• Demonstrates proactive/creative thinking and applies it to the business.
• Understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising to meet customer needs and grow market share.
• Strong business acumen.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where all team members and vendors feel valued and supported.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Store Director in running overall store operations as needed.
• Lead performance management for leaders and team members; make decisions on ratings and promotions.
• Attract, select, and retain a team aligning with Meijer culture, including Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
• Communicate daily with the team; lead huddles on performance, feedback, recognition, and information.
• Drive open communication consistent with Meijer’s philosophy of Care and Accountability.
• Ensure product freshness standards and adherence to processes and procedures.
• Oversee store operations in the Store Director's absence; ensure compliance with Food Safety standards.
• Engage with communities and customers to strengthen Meijer’s brand.
• Drive metrics: sales, shrink, labor, margin, profit, customer satisfaction, and safety.
• Lead new initiatives in store operations; adapt to changing market and customer preferences.
• Participate in daily DSD execution, backroom and salesfloor excellence.
• Monitor competitive trends and store performance; design planograms and assortments.
