Job summary

Spangler’s Market in Half Moon Bay, CA, seeks a Manager on Duty (MOD) to lead daily store operations. The role, part-time or full-time, requires flexible availability including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

The MOD will support front-line staff, ensure an exceptional customer experience, and foster a positive, collaborative workplace culture. Ideal candidates have prior buying/receiving exposure and strong leadership with a customer-focused mindset.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2+ years of experience in grocery (or similar retail) operations.
• Prior experience in buying and receiving is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, hands-on leadership style.
• Commitment to community values and creating a supportive work environment.
• Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Familiarity with POS or inventory systems.

Responsibilities

• Engages the customer in a friendly manner, shares product information, and assists in locating products throughout the store.
• Guides the work of others, ensures staff complete daily opening/closing checklists, plans and assigns work to ensure quality standards are met.
• Ensures each department follows cash handling, register, and return procedures.
• Processes returns per policy and assists cashiers with complex returns.
• Performs all functions of opening or closing the store, including counting the safe and preparing drawers.
