Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Store Manager to lead daily store operations in Virginia. You will recruit and train staff, manage scheduling, oversee inventory, and ensure quality customer service while maintaining store safety and profitability.

The role requires strong leadership, experience in retail, and adherence to company policies. You will coordinate with district leadership and participate in onboarding and regional initiatives.

Qualifications

• Must read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations including percentages.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures and cashier accountability.
• Experience operating IBM cash register and generating reports.
• Understanding of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Good interpersonal abilities for team leadership and store interactions.
• Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring and termination processes including legal compliance.
• Familiarity with cash, facility and safety control policies (deposits, keys, SAFE program).
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to solve problems across varied situations with limited standardization.
• Some locations may prefer bilingual Spanish speakers.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, select and retain qualified employees ensuring proper staffing.
• Provide training, conduct performance evaluations, and counsel or terminate as needed.
• Assist in pay rate recommendations and advancement planning.
• Communicate performance and safety expectations; lead meetings and events.
• Open/close the store consistently twice weekly.
• Analyze operating statements for trends and efficiency improvements.
• Manage ordering to meet in-stock targets and stock replenishment.
• Oversee merch staging, stocking, and presentation according to guidelines.
• Maintain accurate inventory and reduce damages and waste.
• Ensure cash accountability and security procedures are followed.
• Provide superior customer service leadership and a safe environment.
• Keep store clean, organized, and well-equipped for tasks.
