Job summary

Dollar General in Wellsville, KS is seeking a Store Manager Candidate to support the Store Manager in supervising employees, staffing, inventory, and daily store operations. This position is used to foster interactive development of an external candidate for the Store Manager role and is held for a limited period.

You will participate in opening/closing, ensure cash controls, manage merchandise presentation, and help maintain a safe, well-stocked store while following company policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment preferred for external candidates.
• Ability to recruit, interview, hire, counsel, and terminate per policies.
• Ability to read and interpret documents, perform basic math, and manage cash controls.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Assist with store merchandising by facilitating staging, stocking and pricing of merchandise according to store manager direction.
• Assist in all aspects of inventory management and prepare/conduct inventories.
• Follow prescribed ordering practices to meet in-stock targets.
• Provide superior customer service leadership.
• Follow company procedures and policies as outlined in the handbook and SOPs.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Ensure safe deposit of all company funds and cash controls.
• Maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
• Operate store in store manager's absence.
• Review operating statements to identify trends and opportunities; monitor expenses and shrink.
