Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Store Manager to lead all store operations, drive sales, and ensure compliance with company policies and federal/state laws. You will manage staffing, training, inventory, cash handling, and safety while delivering excellent customer service.

The role emphasizes open/close procedures, vendor relations, merchandising execution, and maintaining a safe, profitable store environment across shifts in a fast-paced retail setting.

Qualifications

• Requires ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating instructions and procedures manuals.
• Performs mathematical calculations including totals, percentages and discounts.
• Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability and deposit control.
• Ability to operate IBM cash registers and generate reports.
• Familiarity with inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and customer service leadership.
• Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling and termination practices including legal compliance.
• Knowledge of cash, safety and facility control policies (deposits, keys, SAFE program).
• Excellent organization and attention to detail.
• Ability to solve problems in varied situations; flexibility in approach.
• Spanish speakers may be preferred at some locations.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, select and retain qualified employees per federal/state laws and company policies; ensure staffing levels.
• Provide training, conduct evaluations and address gaps with coaching or termination as needed.
• Make recommendations on pay rate and advancement.
• Communicate performance, conduct and safety expectations; coordinate meetings and events.
• Ensure store opens/closes properly and staffing is adequate.
• Personally open the store at least twice per week and close at least twice per week.
• Evaluate operating statements for sales, profitability and inventory trends.
• Manage ordering to meet in-stock targets; review plans and cycle counts weekly.
• Support efficient merchandise staging, stocking and storage following company processes.
• Ensure proper presentation, pricing and signage of merchandise.
• Maintain inventory accuracy by controlling damages, markdowns and paperwork.
• Ensure cash handling integrity and security procedures.
• Provide superior customer service leadership.
• Maintain clean, safe store environment and proper equipment availability.
• Follow SOPs and company communications; ensure compliance.
• Complete paperwork and documentation on time.
