Job summary

Petco in California is seeking a reliable Key Holder to support store leadership, open and close the store, supervise partners, and deliver a top-tier customer experience for pets and their people.

You will help maintain merchandising standards, manage cash, assist with training, and act as the primary on-floor contact when management is absent, contributing to a safe, welcoming environment.

Qualifications

• Previous retail experience required; key holder or supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic math skills and experience handling cash and transactions.
• Reliable, responsible, and detail oriented.

Responsibilities

• Pet First: Uphold Petco’s animal care standards; promote a safe, welcoming environment; follow policies on animal welfare, safety, and store operations.
• Foster the Fun: Deliver friendly, knowledgeable, and solution-oriented service; support and supervise store partners; assist with training; maintain a clean, organized store environment.
• Let’s Go!: Open and close the store; support daily store operations; execute merchandising standards; assist with inventory, cycle counts, and stock replenishment; identify issues and report to leadership; process transactions, refunds, and exchanges; act as primary on-site contact in management's absence; support sales initiatives and promotions.
• Store Operations, Merchandising & Inventory: Maintain merchandise presentation and in-stock conditions; ensure accurate pricing and signage; assist with inventory counts and shrink awareness; monitor conditions and elevate issues; ensure compliance with policies and safety standards.
• Customer Experience & Leadership: Address customer questions; model selling behaviors and service expectations; provide guidance to partners; escalate concerns appropriately.
• What Success Looks Like: Open/close safely; merchandise well-stocked and priced; inventory handled accurately; customers receive prompt, friendly service; partners feel supported.
