Job description

As a vital member of our team, the Retail Associate reports to the Retail Store Manager and plays a key role in creating a welcoming shopping experience. This position combines cashiering responsibilities—processing transactions and delivering outstanding customer service with merchandising and donation processing duties. Retail Associates ensure the store is inviting, well-stocked, and organized to foster repeat visits and strengthen community ties.

Job Duties:
  • Welcoming Customer Experience: Greet customers warmly, providing friendly and professional service that aligns with our mission.
  • Accurate Transactions : Process cash and credit card payments with precision and enroll customers in loyalty programs.
  • Merchandising and Quality Assurance:
    • Display items according to guidelines and assist with visual merchandising, including endcaps and seasonal displays.
    • Inspect items for quality, identifying any defects such as tears or stains to ensure only the best products reach customers.
    • Pull, restock, and merchandise new goods on the sales floor to maintain a fresh and attractive shopping environment.
  • Sorting and Donation Management:
    • Organize donations into salable, salvage, and trash categories, ensuring non-salable items are properly handled.
    • Hang, tag, and size salable apparel to prepare items for display.
  • Store Maintenance and Cleanliness:
    • Collaborate with staff to maintain the store’s appearance, restocking supplies, cleaning public areas, and ensuring cleanliness in break rooms, restrooms, parking lots, and sidewalks.
  • Production Goals and Documentation: Work efficiently to meet daily production targets, keeping accurate records to stay organized and on track.
  • Market Awareness and Pricing: Stay informed on merchandise trends and competitive pricing, using pricing guides to set fair and accurate prices.
  • Team Communication : Foster positive communication and teamwork with colleagues and management.
  • Safety Practices: Follow safety procedures when handling equipment and contribute to maintaining a secure environment.
  • Flexible Assistance: Support other thrift store locations and take on additional tasks as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Customer Engagement: Friendly demeanor and ability to create positive interactions with customers and donors.
  • Cash Handling and Register Use: Proficiently operate a cash register and process transactions accurately.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on ensuring the quality of items and making fair pricing decisions.
  • Physical Capability:
    • Regularly lift, push, pull, or carry up to 25 pounds and remain on your feet during shifts.
    • Comfortable working in a non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Organizational and Math Skills : Basic math skills for pricing and documentation, with strong organizational abilities.
  • Communication Skills: Good oral and written communication, paired with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Team Player: Collaborative mindset with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
