Job Description

The Sterilization Technician works directly with and under the supervision of the Lead RDA in providing and managing the sterilization of all dental equipment. A successful incumbent will understand the flow and needs of patient care in an outpatient dental setting. This role requires strong teamwork and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following list provides a summary of major duties and responsibilities. Incumbents will perform a variety of duties, including but not limited to:

  • Maintaining instruments and work areas per sterilization/disinfection protocols.
  • Preparing and arranging instruments, medications, and materials.
  • Preparing patients for dental services and instructing them on post-treatment care, diet, and oral hygiene.
  • Following all instructions from the dentist regarding patient treatment.
  • Taking inventory and stocking supplies, instruments, and medications.
  • Performing laboratory procedures such as pouring plaster models.
  • Using four-handed assisting techniques as needed.
  • Maintaining dental equipment and operatories in a clean and functional condition.
  • Cross-training in other dental support roles as necessary.
  • Adhering to OSHA safety guidelines, including personal protective equipment.
  • Participating in training, meetings, and clinics.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • California Dental X-ray license preferred.
  • Completion of NVIH-sponsored Infection Control Course within 90 days of start.
  • Dental assisting training or 1-2 years of on-the-job experience preferred.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize duties.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Teamwork and respectful collaboration skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Reliable transportation and attendance.
