Job summary

Penn State Health – Hershey Medical Center is seeking a Sterile Processing Trainee to learn decontamination, instrumentation, and sterilization concepts under a trainer. You will assist in preparing Operating Room Case Carts and advance toward certification within six months.

The role includes night shifts with a differential and a path to internal certification through the SPD program, at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must enroll in and complete the internal Sterile Processing Technician Certification program; certification exam within six months.
• Documentation of prior Central Sterile Department experience may substitute for trainee; certification must be obtained within six months.
• Knowledge of computer systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Learn decontamination, instrumentation, and sterilization concepts under supervision.
• Prepare Operating Room Case Carts as part of trainee duties.

Hours:11:00p - 7:30a, every fourth weekend, 1 holiday per year

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the direction of a trainer, responsible to learn the basics of decontamination, instrumentation, identification, sterilization concepts and preparation of Operating Room Case Carts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

• High School or equivalent required.
• Must enroll and successfully complete the internal Sterile Processing Technician Certification program, and pass the SPD Technician Certification Exam within six (6) months of being placed in the Trainee position, prior external completion of a sterile processing certificate program will require certification completion in 6 months. Documented work experience in Central Sterile Department can be substituted for trainee program; trainee will be required to pass certification in six (6) months.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

• Knowledge of computer systems preferred.
