Position Objective

The objective of this position is to assemble and sterilize all instruments, instrument trays, utensils, and linen packs. Perform distribution functions as it relates to case carts and sterile instrumentation.

Job Details

Title: Sterile Processing Technician II

Department: Central Sterile Processing

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Responsibilities

• Use established departmental and regulatory standards, principles, and procedures for aseptic technique. Process and assemble instrument trays, respiratory/anesthesia equipment, linen, and utensils accurately and promptly.
• Operate steam and plasma sterilizers according to schedule, load/unload carts, run tests, and report malfunctions.
• Precept and verify competency and skill development of staff, providing feedback to training coordinators and supervisors.
• Perform quality checks on paperwork, labels, and biological reads.
• Inspect packages for indicators, filters, labels, and return non-satisfactory products.
• Perform high-level disinfection with accuracy.
• Utilize patient-specific pick lists to gather surgical instruments and supplies.
• Document case cart build process in the system, updating records and responding to OR requests.
• Conduct scheduled physical inventories of supplies and instruments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred: Completion of a Central Sterile Processing program; two years of experience; certification as CRCST or CBSPD preferred.

Physical & Work Conditions

Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs, stoop, bend, and perform physical tasks. Exposure to blood-borne pathogens expected.

Position involves rotating weekends and on-call duties, strict dress code, and professional appearance including surgical scrubs.
