Job summary

Mercyhealth Freeport Hospital is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to ensure safe patient care by cleaning, inspecting, assembling, sterilizing, and distributing surgical instruments and equipment throughout the hospital.

The position requires adherence to IFU procedures, inventory management, and documentation, with a 40-hour workweek and a day shift from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, including rotating weekend call shifts.

Qualifications

• Must follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in instrument handling.
• Ability to work well in a team and follow department procedures.
• Comfort with reading IFUs and following safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Disassembles, inspects and prepares instruments for decontamination per Universal Precautions.
• Loads and operates washers/ultrasonic cleaners; performs decontamination and disinfection.
• Inspects instruments for damage and tests function/sharpness; assembles instrument sets.
• Prepares instruments for sterilization using aseptic technique and proper packaging.
• Loads/operates steam or hydrogen peroxide sterilizers; reviews cycle parameters.
• Maintains clean, organized work areas and supports inventory control of instruments.
