Job summary

Ascension St. Vincent Orthopedic Hospital in Newburgh, IN is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician for a full-time evening shift (Mon-Fri 3pm-11:30pm) with no weekends.

You will inspect and assemble surgical instruments, ensure sterilization, and maintain precise inventory and case carts to support operating room efficiency. Required credentials include HSPA and CBSPD Sterile Processing certifications (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Inspect, assemble, and evaluate complex surgical instruments and sets to guarantee readiness and patient safety.
• Process soiled instruments and operate sterilization equipment according to protocols and IFUs.
• Use digital tracking systems and count sheets to organize instrument sets for surgeons.
• Manage inventory and prepare case carts to support surgical schedules.
• Assist in quality audits to support continuous improvement in central sterile services.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Ensure Surgical Precision: Inspect, assemble, and evaluate complex surgical instruments and sets to guarantee 100% completeness and readiness, directly impacting seamless operating room performance and patient safety.
• Master Decontamination & Sterilization: Expertly process soiled instruments and operate advanced sterilization equipment according to strict protocols and IFUs, maintaining the highest standards of infection control.
• Maintain Accurate Set Standards: Utilize digital tracking systems and count sheets to meticulously organize instrument sets, ensuring surgeons have the exact tools they need for every procedure.
• Optimize Inventory & Case Preparation: Proactively manage and replenish inventory levels to build complete, timely case carts that keep surgical schedules running without delay.
• Drive Quality Assurance: Conduct regular peer quality audits to foster a culture of continuous improvement, shared accountability, and clinical excellence across the central sterile team.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• Central Service Tech specializing in Sterile Processing credentialed from the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association Preferred.
• Central Service Tech specializing in Sterile Processing credentialed from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) Preferred.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
  • Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.
