Job summary

Keck Hospital of USC is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician II to decontaminate, assemble, sterilize, and distribute reusable surgical instruments across the facility. You will operate autoclaves and hydrogen peroxide sterilizers, maintain documentation, and ensure timely instrument availability for OR teams.

Under supervision, you will assemble procedure sets, inspect packaging, and train junior staff while adhering to SPD policies and IFU guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School or equivalent required.
• Completion of Sterile Processing Program or accredited Surgical Technician program.
• If no program completed, must have an additional 3 years of Sterile Processing experience.
• 1 year Sterile Processing experience required.
• Basic knowledge of Windows OS.
• Ability to operate complex machinery including washers, ultrasonic cleaners, and sterilizers.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Current Sterile Processing Certification (HSPA, CBSPD) or CST/TS-C from CAAHEP/ABHES (renewal required).
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) required within 30 days of hire if not already held.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and package instrument sets per electronic count sheets and IFU.
• Operationally check instrumentation for functionality and cleanliness.
• Decontaminate and load automated washers per IFU.
• Operate and maintain sterilization and disinfection equipment.
• Maintain sterilization documentation for QA and troubleshooting.
• Dispense sterile instrumentation to OR and Sterile Storage.
• Maintain sterile inventory and par levels.
• Train/guide other Sterile Processing Technicians.
• Troubleshoot routine equipment/instrument issues.
• Interface with OR and other departments to resolve issues.
