Job summary

North Shore Steel in Houston, TX is seeking a forklift operator to safely move and stage steel material throughout the distribution operation. You will operate heavy forklifts near overhead cranes and ensure proper load balance for large, irregularly shaped pieces.

Responsibilities include daily forklift inspections, identifying material with tags and heat numbers, coordinating movements with teammates, and maintaining organized storage while adhering to all safety policies.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years forklift or heavy material-handling experience in steel distribution or a heavy industrial environment preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to safely handle large, long, heavy, and irregularly shaped material.
• Knowledge of forklift capacities and selecting appropriate equipment based on weight and dimensions.
• Strong spatial awareness and ability to coordinate material movements safely.

Responsibilities

• Perform and document required daily forklift inspections before operating equipment.
• Identify material for movement or production and verify tags, heat numbers, quantities, and other identifying information.
• Safely pick up, transport, stage, and position large steel products with appropriate equipment.
• Maintain proper load balance and control when transporting long or heavy material.
• Follow safety policies and coordinate with coworkers to move material safely.
