Job description

Summary of Position: Operates and maintains boilers and auxiliary equipment to produce steam for heat and power at the Masonicare Health Center.

Reports To: Manager Facilities

Supervises: N/A

Contacts: Employees, Residents, Patients, Vendors

Position Type: Per diem

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Operate and maintain boilers; monitor meters and gauges, taking appropriate actions to ensure safe operation.
2. Start, stop, and switch over boilers as needed.
3. Clean and repair boilers, blow tubes, discharge sediment, regulate feed water and condensation pumps, and lubricate pump equipment.
4. Clean inside of boiler walls, repair or replace broken or worn parts.
5. Test emergency generators, log results, and react accordingly. Test boiler and cooling tower water samples, and assign proper chemical treatments.
6. Perform periodic inspections of mechanical rooms to ensure proper operation of heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and medical support equipment.
7. Perform emergency maintenance during off-hours (3:30 PM to 7:00 AM daily, weekends, and holidays). Contact on-call personnel if repairs cannot be completed.
8. Check operation of emergency generators during power failures, reset relays, inspect and reset elevators, ensuring no individuals are trapped.
9. Maintain proficient knowledge of boilers, generators, elevators, and HVAC machinery/equipment.
10. Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Education: Post high school vocational or specialized training.
2. Experience: 1-3 years of boiler room experience.
3. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A Boiler Operator license is preferred.
