Job summary

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is seeking a Station Planning, Emerging Talent Intern to support passenger flow analysis, data collection, and environmental review. The role is based at 2 Broadway, New York, NY and requires in-person attendance at the designated work location.

The intern will assist with station element measurements, ridership data gathering, and Excel database creation on SharePoint, contributing to ADA-related station upgrades and rezoning studies.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
• Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills.
• Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks.
• Detail-oriented and able to work independently while being collaborative.

Responsibilities

• Calculate the Level of Service or egress time at a station element using planning methodologies and templates.
• Summarize calculation results in emails or reports with reasonable recommendations for review.
• Measure station elements and count passenger volumes in stations under supervision.
• Write or refine a SQL script to obtain ridership information by fare control area.
• Create an Excel-based database on the team SharePoint with up-to-date station element data.
• Participate in meetings with other departments about upcoming station improvements.
• Identify and communicate likely customer wayfinding needs during upcoming partial closures.
• Attend staff meetings and update the team on project progress.
