Job summary

Opus is a software and hardware driven global leader in automotive technology services seeking a Station Operations Manager in Indiana. You will oversee all station activities, manage staff, ensure safety and quality, and drive customer-focused service in a fast-paced environment.

You will coordinate inspections, reports, and training while maintaining budgets and compliance with state requirements. Strong communication and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate all station operations within budgetary guidelines and in accordance with company policies, procedures, and state requirements.

  • Analyze labor, inspection volume, quality, and performance metrics to maximize efficiency.
  • Administer stock, inventory, and calibration gases; maintain records.
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, monthly, and special reports.
  • Provide supervision, coaching, development, and support to all station employees.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, certify, and retain qualified staff.
  • Schedule work assignments based on traffic and requirements.
  • Conduct on-the-job training and regular staff meetings.
  • Ensure certifications and competencies are maintained.

Opus's technologies and services help our state partners to meet strict US EPA Clean Air regulations by managing vehicle inspection programs, Vehicle Information Databases, and developing differentiated solutions for remote vehicle monitoring.

Duties & Responsibilities

Station Operations & Performance

  • Manage and coordinate all station operations within budgetary guidelines and in accordance with company policies, procedures, and state contractual requirements.
  • Ensure station goals, objectives, quality standards, and customer service expectations are consistently achieved.
  • Open and close the facility as required.
  • Analyze station labor, inspection volume, quality, and performance metrics to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Administer and control station forms, supplies, inventory, parts inventory, and calibration gases.
  • Prepare and submit all required daily, weekly, monthly, and special operational reports in a timely manner.
  • Report extraordinary operational issues and activities to the Operations Manager.
  • Support station operations as needed, including vehicle inspections, tag renewals, customer interactions, and general lane operations.
  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, guidance, development, and support to all station employees.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, certify, and retain highly qualified station personnel.
  • Schedule work assignments and staffing levels based on traffic volume and operational requirements.
  • Conduct comprehensive on-the-job training, periodic retraining, and regular staff meetings.
  • Ensure employees maintain required certifications and competencies.
  • Administer performance management processes, including employee evaluations, coaching, corrective actions, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Foster employee engagement, positive morale, teamwork, and professional development.
  • Resolve employee concerns and workplace issues promptly and effectively.
  • Promote exceptional customer service and ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Train employees to effectively handle customer concerns and difficult situations.
  • Maintain positive relationships with customers, employees, community members, and business partners.
  • Ensure a professional image and environment that reflects company values and commitment to service excellence.

Safety, Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Manage and implement station safety programs to maintain a safe workplace for employees and customers.
  • Ensure compliance with all company quality programs, safety standards, regulatory requirements, and operational procedures.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement Program (CIP) initiatives and quality assurance activities.
  • Conduct and document facility, equipment, and quality inspections as required.
  • Ensure all employees participate in required safety and compliance training programs.
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with federal, state, and company regulations governing vehicle inspection programs.

Vehicle Inspection & Technical Responsibilities

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of vehicle inspection and emissions testing procedures.
  • Understand the function of vehicle emissions control systems and perform visual inspections accurately and consistently.
  • Perform waiver inspections and grant waivers in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Ensure station management personnel maintain required waiver certifications.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all station testing equipment and related systems.
  • Perform first-level maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on inspection equipment and associated systems.
  • Conduct equipment inspections and coordinate repairs as necessary.

Facility & Asset Management

  • Coordinate overall facility upkeep and maintenance to ensure a safe, professional, and efficient work environment.
  • Oversee painting, snow removal, landscaping, grounds maintenance, janitorial services, and general housekeeping.
  • Ensure all facility equipment, tools, and assets are properly maintained and secured.
  • Monitor inventory and supply levels to support uninterrupted station operations.
  • Manage station operations within approved budgets and operational guidelines.
  • Perform cash-outs, cash drops, reconciliations, and financial controls according to established procedures.
  • Maintain accurate station records, documentation, and reporting requirements.
  • Understand and manage key financial performance indicators affecting station operations.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of management or supervisory experience with direct employee supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service, leadership, and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing employees, implementing procedures, and solving operational issues.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and operational reporting tools.
  • Successful completion of all required certification programs.
  • Previous vehicle inspection, emissions testing, automotive service, or transportation industry experience.
  • Experience with labor management systems, inventory control, quality assurance programs, and compliance audits.

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate computer systems, testing equipment, and related inspection devices.
  • Ability to perform light maintenance tasks and safely handle equipment and supplies.
