Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks a Station Electrician to perform construction, maintenance, and testing of energized or de-energized generation, transmission, and distribution facilities in the Shreveport area. The role requires living within 30 miles of Arsenal Hill Power Plant and involves overtime, call-out work, and significant travel.

Responsibilities include wiring, testing, inspections, equipment maintenance, and contributing to emergency response efforts.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent required.
• Military training or equivalent technical/technician background acceptable.
• Recent experience as a Station Electrician or equivalent job title with another utility/contractor acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Work on energized equipment up to 260 volts; after six months may work on higher voltages with supervision.
• Select proper prints and drawings for various work and understand them.
• Use test equipment such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, insulation megger for station work.
• Assist in maintaining and repairing station transformers, circuit breakers, substations, rotating machinery, and related equipment.
• Install and maintain conduits, cables, and wiring; pass tools; dig trenches and backfill.
• Perform visual inspections and read gauges; report abnormal conditions.
• Replace lamps and switches; install/maintain signal and communication systems.
• Assist in transformer testing and related electrical tests (TTR, Doble, megger).
• Assist in station switching and grounding as directed.
• Maintain records and participate in training.

Education

Associate degree in electrical/mechanical/industrial maintenance technology or equivalent education and/or experience

Military training or equivalent technical/technician background (electrical)

Recent experience as a Station Electrician or equivalent job title
