Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) in Texas seeks a Station Electrician to perform a wide range of duties associated with energized and de-energized generation, transmission and distribution facilities. You will respond to emergencies, coordinate restoration of service, and assist in training others as needed.

Responsibilities include working on energized equipment up to 260 volts, after six months handling higher voltages under supervision, reading prints, and performing various tests.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in electrical/mechanical/industrial maintenance technology or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Equivalent education and experience is limited to military training and work experience of technical/technician nature (such as aviation and nuclear instrumentation technician).

Responsibilities

  • Work on energized equipment up to 260 volts.
  • Assist in conductors and equipment energized above 750 volts with direct supervision.
  • Select proper prints/drawings and understand each.
  • Use voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, insulation meggers and related test equipment.
  • Disassemble/assemble, maintain, repair station transformers, circuit breakers, portable substations, rotating machinery, and more.
