Job summary

Washington State Department of Social and Health Services seeks a strategic financial leader to guide statewide fiscal policies and safeguard the agency’s financial integrity. You will manage GAAP/GASB compliance, oversee federal grant processes, and lead a high-performing accounting team across the department.

The role requires extensive experience in governmental accounting, strong supervisory skills, and the ability to coordinate statewide activities with diverse program areas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or business with accounting/finance coursework.
• Ten years’ work experience in professional accounting or auditing, preferably governmental accounting with GAAP/GASB knowledge.
• Five years supervisory experience.
• Additional qualifying experience can substitute for education hours; concurrent experience allowed.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a professional financial consultant in support of agency-wide accounting and financial systems.
• Coordinate activities with program and institution fiscal areas statewide across all agency administrations.
• Identify and analyze national accounting standards and federal/state regulations and determine the impact on the department.
• Oversee general ledger reconciliations, agency audits, federal grant awards and draws, and assist with fiscal year close.
