Job summary

The Office of the New York State Comptroller is seeking candidates for Trainee 1/2 roles to assist in performance audits across state agencies, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. You will develop audit work papers, draft preliminary findings, and participate in stakeholder discussions.

Qualified applicants will have degrees in accounting or related fields; traineeship may lead to full SG-18 level. Telecommuting is available; salary ranges are defined by trainee level.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or graduate degree in accounting or related IT field and two years of professional accounting/auditing experience for Trainee 1.
• Bachelor's or graduate degree in accounting or related IT field; one year of professional accounting/auditing experience for Trainee 2.
• Master's or doctoral degree in accounting or related field with relevant experience may satisfy qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist in performance audits of state agencies, institutions and authorities.
• Prepare audit work papers documenting work and conclusions.
• Discuss findings with auditee representatives and participate in exit/entrance conferences.
