Job summary

Office of the NYS Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli seeks a State Program Examiner Trainee to assist in performance audits across state agencies, focusing on management efficiency and program effectiveness. Trainees receive structured and on-the-job training to develop audit competencies.

Position may be filled at Trainee 1 or Trainee 2, with salary progression based on education and experience. Telecommuting options are described in the agency policy and benefits package is extensive.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or graduate degree in accounting, business administration, business management, computer science, related IT field, or statistics.
• Two years of professional accounting and/or auditing experience required for certain trainee levels.
• Advanced degrees qualify for higher trainee levels or full performance roles.

Responsibilities

• Assist in performance audits of state agencies, institutions, and authorities.
• Evaluate systems for compliance with laws, rules, and contract terms.
• Prepare audit work papers, preliminary findings, and discuss with auditees.
• Participate in entrance and exit conferences and audit workflow.
