Job summary

The Progressive regional CPA firm seeks an Audit Director with a State and Local Government specialization, offering a fast track to partnership and a reasonable work-life balance. The role supports a hybrid work environment with relocation assistance.

As liaison between Partner, client, and staff, the Director oversees multiple engagements, develops staff, and drives new business for the firm while maintaining strong client relationships.

Qualifications

• Approximately 10 years' experience in public accounting and a minimum of 2 years in a senior manager position.
• Experience auditing state and local governments (cities, counties, special districts, charter schools, etc.).
• CPA license is current and valid.
• Ability to travel to client and firm locations.
• Proven ability to bring in new business to a CPA Firm.
• Experience conducting audits under GAGAS/Yellow Book, GAAS, and the Uniform Guidance.
• Ability to direct, review and train staff.
• Experience auditing not-for-profit organizations.

Responsibilities

• Maintains contact with clients throughout the year; knows the client and operations; builds and maintains relationships.
• Acts as engagement partner or reports to the engagement partner; ensures deliverables meet standards and policy.
• Signs attest opinions as engagement partner when assigned.
• Oversees engagement phases; ensures compliance with accounting framework and firm policy.
• Apprises Partner of important developments; identifies issues and proposes solutions.
• Ensures engagements are properly scheduled.
• Serves as SME for governmental sector.
• Ensures billing and collections follow firm policy.
• Supervises staff; provides on-the-job training; reviews work papers and reports.
• Leads staff performance evaluations and counseling.
• Participates in recruitment and interviews Assurance/Advisory candidates.
• Represents the firm in business development; builds a network for new business; generates fee estimates.
• Leads prospective client communications and meetings; manages initial contacts and proposals.
• Maintains compliance with Firm-wide policies.
