Job summary

Public Citizen in Washington, DC seeks a strategic and organized self-starter to serve as AI Governance and Tech State Policy Advocate. You will work with the Campaign Director to advance model state AI legislation, establish guardrails to protect the public, and build relationships with state lawmakers to move legislation forward.

The role tracks AI and Big Tech policy, develops strategy and messaging, drafts legislative language, coordinates with coalitions, and supports media efforts.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of relevant research and advocacy experience.
• Experience with AI and/or Big Tech policy is preferred.
• Strong analytic, research, and written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work in coalitions and networks.
• Ability to manage deadlines and multiple responsibilities with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• State legislative advocacy.
• Research issues in AI and Big Tech policy.
• Draft and review legislative language.
• Build relationships with lawmakers from both sides of the aisle.
• Develop state legislative strategy in collaboration with leadership.
• Engage coalitions and stakeholders; assist with media strategies.
