Job summary

Americans for Responsible Innovation (ARI) seeks a Vice President of State Government Affairs to create and lead a new nationwide state advocacy operation from Washington, DC. You will build a four-regional team, coordinate with federal staff, and defend against restrictive AI legislation while promoting responsible policy.

You will drive ARI’s fifty-state strategy, supervise contract lobbyists, and engage with national bodies like NCSL, NGA, and state legislators to advance ARI’s mission.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in government affairs or advocacy.
• At least 5 years leading multi-state advocacy.
• Track record building/running multi-state programs.
• Experience retaining and managing contract lobbyists.
• Deep knowledge of state legislative processes.
• Ability to work with legislators from both parties.
• Willingness to travel during sessions January–May.

Responsibilities

• Set and own ARI’s fifty-state advocacy plan and priorities.
• Recruit, hire, and lead four regional Directors of Government Affairs.
• Coordinate with federal team to align state and federal efforts.
• Lead rapid-response advocacy for harmful bills in state capitals.
• Support pro-guardrails legislation in ARI’s issue areas.
• Represent ARI to national bodies and state leadership.
• Build partnerships with state attorney generals and governors’ offices.
