Job summary

Public Citizen seeks a strategic and organized self-starter to serve as AI Governance and Tech State Policy Advocate. The Policy Advocate will collaborate with the Campaign Director to promote model state AI legislation and guardrails to protect the American people from AI abuses.

They will build relationships with state lawmakers, develop bipartisan messaging, and track AI/tech policy while coordinating with coalitions to address Big Tech concerns.

Qualifications

• College degree required.
• 4+ years of relevant research and advocacy experience, with a preference for AI and/or Big Tech.
• Strong analytic, written and oral communication skills.
• Proven ability to work in coalitions and networks.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks.
• Collaborative, energetic, and mission-driven.
• Ability to drive projects from concept to completion.
• Strong interest in regulating and rein in Big Tech.

Responsibilities

• State legislative advocacy and strategy development.
• Research AI and Big Tech policy; track legislation.
• Draft and review legislative language and reports.
• Build relationships with lawmakers from both sides of the aisle.
• Coordinate with coalitions and engage in media strategies.
