Job summary

Ursa Major, in Colorado, seeks a Staff Systems Engineer to drive safety, reliability, and risk management for propulsion systems. You will own system safety strategies, collaborate with design, test, and program teams, and manage relationships with DoD Safety Review Boards.

Eligible for a Secret Clearance is required. You will influence mission assurance across multiple programs, lead FMEA/FHA efforts, and ensure flight safety and reliability from concept through fielding.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in system safety, mission assurance, or systems engineering.
• Experience with solid rocket motors, ignition systems, propulsion systems, launch vehicles, or defense aerospace programs.
• Experience with risk analysis methods (FMEA, FHA, probabilistic risk assessment).
• Experience with aerospace industry standards (MIL-STD-882, etc.).
• Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams and customers.
• This position requires eligibility for a Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement mission assurance processes for product safety and performance.
• Represent Ursa Major with Weapon Safety Boards and prepare motor qualification plans and tests.
• Lead hazard classification planning and approval for motor shipments and fielding.
• Maintain risk registers and present findings internally and externally.
• Develop system safety requirements and perform FMEA/FHA analyses.
• Plan end-to-end product lifecycle including handling restrictions and disposal.
• Support flight test range safety and lead failure investigations.
