Job summary

Ursa Major in Colorado seeks a Staff Systems Engineer to drive safety, reliability, and risk management for propulsion systems. You will work with design, test, manufacturing, and program teams to develop robust safety strategies and ensure mission success, while maintaining the relationship with DoD Safety Review Boards.

This role requires a Bachelor’s in engineering, 8+ years in system safety or mission assurance, experience with solid rocket motors and aerospace programs, and eligibility for

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Systems Engineering.
• 8+ years in system safety, mission assurance, or systems engineering.
• Experience with solid rocket motors, ignition systems, propulsion systems, launch vehicles, or defense aerospace programs.
• Experience with risk analysis methods (FMEA, FHA, probabilistic risk assessment).
• Experience with aerospace industry standards (MIL-STD-882).
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams and customers.
• Eligible for U.S. Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop mission assurance processes for reliability, safety, and performance.
• Coordinate with Weapon Safety Boards and prepare motor qualification plans.
• Plan and approve Interim and Final Hazard Classifications for motor shipments.
• Maintain risk registers and present findings.
• Collaborate with design and product teams to reduce risk.
• Perform FMEA and FHA analyses for system design.
• Plan end-to-end product lifecycle including handling, demilitarization, and disposal.
• Support flight test range safety and lead failure investigations.
• Conduct reliability assessments for motor products.
