Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is recruiting a Staff Systems – Nuclear Harness & Survivability (NH&S) Engineer (T05) located in Roy, Utah to support the Sentinel program.

Relocation assistance may be available. Clearance required: Secret. Travel: Yes, 10% of the time.

The engineer will lead NH&S and software‑focused reviews, perform radiation transport modeling, and coordinate across teams to ensure survivability of software‑controlled systems in challenging environments.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizen with an active U.S. Government Secret Clearance, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret Clearance and SAP approval within a reasonable period.
  • Experience conducting NH&S design reviews for survivable or strategic weapon systems and translating nuclear effects environments into system and software requirements.
  • Experience with MIL‑STD‑750, MIL‑STD‑464, MIL‑STD‑883 testing or similar qualification/verification testing of EEE parts, circuit card assemblies, or subsystems.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB and Python for data analysis, modeling, or automation; experience modeling radiation effects using PSPICE.

Responsibilities

  • Lead software‑focused systems engineering activities for the SLCM‑N program during the TMRR phase.
  • Perform planning, requirements decomposition, allocation, and interface definition for software subsystems.
  • Define and assess nuclear hardness and survivability environments and flow requirements into software/hardware interfaces.
  • Conduct radiation transport modeling and analysis of radiation effects on semiconductor devices and software‑controlled electronics.
  • Perform radiation effects circuit analysis, ground shock, thermal effects, and evaluate EMP/EMI/EMC impacts on systems.
  • Plan and coordinate NH&S and EEE parts qualification testing (MIL‑STD‑750, MIL‑STD‑883, MIL‑STD‑464) including data review and results analysis.
  • Lead NH&S design reviews and software‑focused system design reviews and ensure robust verification and validation.
  • Coordinate across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Perform trade studies, modeling, and analysis to optimize survivability and performance.
  • Advise management and customers on advanced NH&S concepts for cruise missile applications.
