Job summary

General Motors seeks a Staff System Engineer specializing in Mechatronic Flash Programming to define, implement, and improve flash-programming requirements and validation strategies for advanced mechatronic systems across GM vehicle programs.

The engineer will serve as a technical lead across development, manufacturing, OTA, and service programming environments, connecting system requirements, embedded software, diagnostics, vehicle networks, and test automation to deliver reliable updates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in Software Development, with a strong focus on embedded systems or automotive applications.
  • Strong experience with automotive flash programming, embedded systems, vehicle diagnostics, and software requirements.
  • Experience developing or reviewing software, scripts, engineering tools, or test automation.
  • Experience across the software or systems development lifecycle and with agile methods.
  • Experience using Wireshark or similar tools to analyze PCAP and diagnostic traffic.

Responsibilities

  • Define and deliver flash-programming requirements and solutions for advanced mechatronic systems across GM vehicle programs.
  • Lead programming strategies for development, manufacturing, OTA, and service environments.
  • Partner with software, hardware, diagnostics, cybersecurity, manufacturing, and vehicle-integration teams to deliver reliable solutions.
  • Develop and improve programming tools, diagnostics, scripts, and automated tests.
  • Analyze programming issues, identify root causes, and drive effective corrective actions.
  • Maintain requirements, test coverage, traceability, and technical documentation.
  • Establish reusable standards and practices that improve programming quality, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and roadmap direction for programming capabilities in future architectures
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on complex programming tasks.
  • Define and track KPIs for flash programming quality and efficiency.
