Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Denver is seeking a Staff Substation Engineer to develop design deliverables for high-voltage substations (13kV–765kV) under the supervision of a licensed PE. You will work with project teams through design and construction, adapting plans to budget and client needs.

Responsibilities include preparing substation design packages, performing electrical studies, and supporting QA/QC, client presentations, and field inspections.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical or Mechanical engineering.
• 3 years of substation engineering experience required; consulting preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and analytical skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Develop design deliverables for high-voltage substations (13kV–765kV) through construction.
• Prepare substation design packages including arrangement, protection/relaying, grounding, and lighting.
• Perform calculations for insulation, DC systems, voltage drop, and cable sizing.
• Support field inspections, client presentations, and project QA/QC.
• Assist with proposals and maintain project schedules with the team.
