Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Chicago, IL, is seeking a Staff Substation Engineer to develop design deliverables for high-voltage power substations from 13 kV to 765 kV. You will work with the project team through design and construction, adapting plans to budget, design factors, or client needs.

Responsibilities include preparing substation design packages, performing electrical studies, supporting field inspections, and coordinating with clients to keep schedules and QA/QC guidelines.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• FE exam completion with relevant substation experience preferred.
• Strong communication and analytical problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Supports substation projects from concept through completion.
• Prepares design packages: arrangement, relaying, control, and lighting.
• Performs electrical studies like grounding and voltage drop.
• Supports field inspections and client communications.
• Meets project schedules and QA/QC guidelines.
