Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Substation Engineer to develop design deliverables for high‑voltage substation projects. You will work under a licensed PE, guiding design through conception to construction while aligning with budgets and client needs.

The role emphasizes electrical studies, protection, control, and coordination; you’ll support field inspections and client communications, contributing to proposals and project schedules.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor's in electrical or mechanical engineering with 3 years substation exp.
• Or ABET-accredited engineering technology degree with FE exam and 3 years exp.
• Strong written and verbal communication, analytical skills and problem solving.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and standard PC tools.

Responsibilities

• Support substation projects from concept through completion.
• Prepare design packages: layout, relaying, grounding, lighting and security.
• Develop substation calculations: insulation, voltage drop, cables and conduit fills.
• Create BOMs, specs, and other deliverables; assist QA/QC checks.
• Support field inspections and client presentations; track project status.
