Job summary

Bumble is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for its Trust & Safety team to shape the platform that detects, prevents, and responds to harmful behavior at scale. You will drive architectural decisions, cloud transitions, and API governance across multiple teams and products.

You will mentor engineers, improve tooling, and champion AI-assisted safety, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and reliability while maintaining high performance for millions of users globally.

Qualifications

• Typically requires 8+ years of building large-scale backend or distributed systems.
• Deep expertise in designing and operating high-scale distributed systems using Go, Kotlin, Java, or similar.
• Experience leading organization-wide technical migrations or platform adoptions across many teams.
• Strong understanding of event-driven architectures and large-scale decision systems for detection and enforcement.
• Experience building cloud-native systems on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and AWS, incl. Kubernetes and CI/CD.
• Demonstrated ability to define technical strategy and influence architectural direction across multiple engineering teams.
• Proven track record mentoring senior engineers and raising engineering standards.
• Strong AI fluency, including AI tooling and model workflows.

Responsibilities

• Help guide the technical direction of Bumble's Trust & Safety platform for millions of members.
• Identify high-leverage engineering investments across detection, moderation, enforcement, and appeals.
• Lead the design of large-scale distributed systems with real-time signal ingestion and ML-powered detection.
• Drive cloud migrations and governance across dozens of services with shared APIs and contracts.
• Partner with Product, Data Science, ML, Policy, Legal, and Operations to translate threats into safety solutions.
• Raise the bar for engineering quality with principles, security, observability, and incident response.
• Mentor engineers, build tooling, and develop a scalable Safety engineering community.
