Job summary

Gusto is seeking a seasoned Staff Software Engineer for the Time / Scheduling product team. You will drive features from spec to launch, writing frontend code and building robust backend APIs, while influencing product direction and owning post-launch outcomes.

You will mentor engineers, scale one of the world’s largest Ruby on Rails and JavaScript/React apps, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate customer pain points into tangible solutions.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience.
• Experience building scalable solutions that reduce customer pain and improve experiences.
• Experience leveraging AI tools to accelerate development, testing, and new capabilities.
• Curiosity and experimentation with emerging AI frameworks and safe scaling practices.
• Ownership across multi-quarter projects with measurable customer impact at scale.
• Experience with large-scale refactors, performance and reliability improvements.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and test Gusto core products across the Time domain.
• Mentor other engineers to solve complex problems at scale.
• Help scale Ruby on Rails and JavaScript/React applications.
• Collaborate with Product, Data, Design, and Platform Engineering to address customer pain points and prototype solutions.
• Deliver products that customers love.
