Grafana Labs is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for Tempo in a fully remote role. You will drive technical direction on the Tempo platform, shaping ingestion, storage, and query capabilities while elevating performance and reliability.

Qualifications

Proven track record leading complex multi‑quarter initiatives.
Experience building and operating distributed data systems.
Strong ability to write robust, maintainable software.
Go proficiency or a clear path to Go expertise.
Experience owning production services and reducing toil.
Customer‑focused pragmatism and outcome‑driven delivery.
Effective leadership through design docs, reviews, and collaboration.

Responsibilities

Lead multi‑quarter technical initiatives from problem framing through rollout.
Own the architecture of core Tempo components: ingestion, storage, query, metrics.
Design human and agent APIs for Tempo interfaces and integrations.
Drive operational excellence with concrete SLOs and automation.
Partner with Product and sibling teams to unblock consumption of Tempo.
Mentor engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and guidance.
Participate in on‑call for the services you help build and in post‑incident learning.
Contribute to open source and engage with the community.
