Job summary

Hims & Hers is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Subscriptions and Membership Platform team. The role focuses on scalable backend design, billing lifecycle, and cross-functional collaboration to drive activation and retention.

You will mentor engineers, shape platform decisions, and advance security, performance, and reliability across commerce, pharmacy, and fulfillment domains.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with leadership exposure.
• Experience building platform infrastructure for customer retention and engagement.
• Proficiency in backend tech: Java, Kotlin, Spring, PostgreSQL; front-end: React/TypeScript.
• Experience with cloud environments (AWS) and scalable architectures.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and monitoring tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and architecture of scalable backend solutions for subscriptions.
• Own architecture of core subscription systems including billing lifecycle.
• Partner with multiple teams to scale platform decisions across the org.
• Provide mentorship and enforce coding standards and patterns.
• Drive security, scalability, and performance improvements.
• Participate in product discovery and prototyping with teams.
• Establish analytics and monitoring to show impact on activation KPIs.
• Maintain technical documentation and perform code reviews.
