Job summary

Compass is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Search & Listings organization in Bellevue, WA. You will design and build scalable search infrastructure, listing pipelines, and data enrichment services to power a leading real estate discovery experience.

Lead a team, shape API design, and drive reliable, high-performance systems that scale to a national audience. You will contribute to product decisions, promote best practices, and mentor other engineers while advancing AI-enabled workflows

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a computing field or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years building high-performance software in Java or Go.
• Experience leading cross-team initiatives and large-scale systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and ownership of platform architecture and data ingestion for scalable search.
• Independently define and lead delivery of complex technical projects across the stack.
• Champion reliability and reduce technical debt through architectural improvements.
• Adopt modern patterns including AI and telemetry to automate workflows.
• Lead with a culture of CI/CD/testing/monitoring and mentor engineers.
• Inspire, recruit, and mentor colleagues while contributing to team visibility.
• Join a team with challenging projects and visible impact.
