Job summary

Compass is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Search & Listings (SNL) organization. You will design and build scalable search infrastructure, listing pipelines, enrichment services, and feed integrations to support a world-class real estate discovery experience.

You will lead a team, craft well-defined APIs, and drive architectural excellence across the stack, with emphasis on reliability, performance, and ML-enabled workflows.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of experience developing comprehensive, well-tested software applications in Java or Go with gRPC/Thrift/Kafka.
• 5+ years using AWS/cloud technologies.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and ownership of platform architecture for scalable search and listings.
• Lead complex technical projects across the full stack.
• Define reliability KPIs and improve service health to reduce toil and costs.
• Adopt modern software patterns, including AI integration and data pipelines.
• Recruit, mentor, and inspire engineers.
