Job summary

Compass is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Search & Listings organization in Seattle. You will design and lead microservices‑based search infrastructure, listing pipelines, and data enrichment to deliver an industry‑leading discovery experience, while mentoring a talented team.

You will drive scalable architecture, champion reliability, and advance AI‑assisted workflows in a fast growing real estate tech platform. Excellent communication and leadership are essential for success.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years building high‑performing software in Java or Go and event‑driven systems.
• 5+ years using AWS / cloud technologies.
• Technical leader with cross‑team impact and strong architectural skills.
• Experience with Scrum/Agile development and strong English communication.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and ownership of platform architecture and data ingestion for scalable search.
• Lead delivery of complex projects across the full stack independently.
• Drive reliability by defining KPIs and reducing tech debt and toil.
• Adopt modern patterns including AI, data pipelines, and telemetry to automate workflows.
• Support a scalable engineering culture with CI/CD, testing, and monitoring.
• Inspire, recruit, and mentor engineers.
