Job summary

Rula is a remote-first company building a Marketplace Health Engine to improve access to mental healthcare. We’re seeking a Staff Software Engineer to shape scalable systems, mentor engineers, and partner with product, data, and ops to drive real-world impact.

This role blends hands-on software development with leadership across teams, focusing on distributed backend services and data-heavy platforms in AWS while supporting a healthy work-life balance for U.S.-based teammates ( Hawaii excluded ).

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building scalable distributed systems.
• Experience leading technical initiatives across multiple teams and influencing technical strategy without direct authority.
• Experience designing and building backend services, APIs, and data-intensive systems (AWS preferred).
• Experience partnering effectively with Product and Data to deliver business outcomes.
• Experience solving complex marketplace, platform, or large-scale operational problems with measurable impact.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to align technical and non-technical stakeholders around a shared vision.
• Experience driving projects end-to-end, from discovery and design through implementation, launch, and post-launch support.

Responsibilities
