Job summary

IBM seeks a Staff Software Engineer for the Secure Compute Platform on Confluent Cloud. You will lead technical direction, design platform APIs, and build a multi-tenant, cloud-native compute substrate across AWS, Azure, and GCP.

You will mentor engineers, drive security and observability, and partner with product teams to deliver scalable, reliable infrastructure that enables trusted workloads at scale.

Qualifications

• 10+ years delivering backend or infrastructure software in production.
• Proven lead delivery of large-scale, highly available distributed systems.
• Deep Kubernetes expertise including controllers and multi-region patterns.
• Strong Go experience building production-grade services and control planes.
• Experience with multi-tenant platform architectures and security/isolation.
• Hands-on with secure container runtimes and Linux internals.
• Familiar with gRPC, Protobuf and service-to-service APIs.
• Observability, metrics, logging, tracing, and SLO-driven operations.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, and Azure and cloud-provider integrations.
• Technical leadership, cross-team collaboration, and mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Define the technical direction for Secure Compute across runtime, API, and security at scale.
• Design and implement platform APIs and Kubernetes controllers for workload lifecycle and isolation.
• Partner with product and platform teams to shape roadmaps and enable new features.
• Deliver initiatives in scheduling, networking patterns, rollout strategies, and resource management.
• Lead architecture reviews and ensure safe-by-default, scalable platform primitives.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, design guidance, and best practices.
• Own operational excellence including availability, SLOs, incident response, and disaster recovery.
