Gusto is seeking a seasoned Staff Software Engineer to join the Expansion Experiences team, driving customer-facing features and experimentation from concept through launch. You will design frontend experiences, build robust backend APIs, and apply real‑world judgment to product decisions.

The role emphasizes mentoring, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and leveraging AI tools to accelerate development and improve outcomes for millions of small business customers.

Formación

• 8+ years of software development experience
• Product-minded engineer focused on customer problems and metrics
• Experience building scalable solutions and driving customer impact
• Experience owning multi-quarter projects solving complex engineering problems
• Comfort designing and interpreting experiments with evolving requirements
• Ability to mentor engineers and raise technical execution
• Experience with large-scale refactors, performance, and ownership
• Experience leveraging AI tools to accelerate development and deliver new capabilities

Responsabilidades

• Design, build, and test customer-facing experiences across recommendations, nurture campaigns, booking flows, and upgrade/retention
• Run structured experiments (A/B tests, phased rollouts) to validate impact on conversions/retention
• Design and build reliable backend APIs and data models supporting personalization and multi-step journeys
• Mentor engineers and raise the bar on technical execution and AI usage
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Data, and Platform Engineering to identify pain points and prototype/launch solutions
