Job summary
Samsara is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to shape the technical direction of the Maps platform. You’ll build data ingestion, processing pipelines, and APIs for reusable spatial capabilities across Samsara’s products, while mentoring teams and aligning cross-functional efforts.
The role is remote and open to candidates based in the US, with responsibilities spanning geospatial stack and foundational infrastructure for the company’s location-aware experiences.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- 8+ years building software with at least 2 years in an architect/leadership role
- 4+ years working on large-scale distributed systems
- 4+ years leading technical projects across multiple teams
- Experience with GIS technologies and spatial analysis (PostGIS, GeoPandas/Shapely, QGIS)
- Familiarity with geospatial data formats and open mapping ecosystems (OSM)
Responsibilities
- Shape the technical direction of the Maps team and platform
- Build geospatial systems and integrations for core features
- Scale storage, query, and compute for real-time geospatial features
- Consolidate geospatial solutions into scalable platform-wide offerings
- Mentor and review code to raise the team’s technical bar
