Job summary

Samsara is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Maps team to set the technical direction of a shared geospatial platform used by multiple products. You will build geospatial systems, ingest and serve map data, and scale real-time features across the portfolio.

This remote role is open to US-based candidates. You will lead cross‑team collaborations, mentor engineers, perform code reviews, and partner with leadership to balance tradeoffs while delivering reliable, scalable location-aware

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
8+ years building software, with at least 2 years in an architect or technical leadership role.
4+ years working on large-scale distributed systems.
4+ years leading technical projects across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

Shape the technical direction of the Maps teams.
Build geospatial systems and integrations that support core features across Samsara products.
Scale offerings to support storage, query, and computation for real‑time features.
Consolidate team-specific geospatial solutions into scalable platform‑wide offerings.
Build agentic solutions that allow customers to self‑serve data as they want to see it.
Raise the technical bar through code reviews, design discussions, and mentorship.
Partner with engineering leadership on strategic bets and tradeoffs.
Represent Samsara externally in talks, open source, and mapping communities.
