Job summary

Fivetran is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Core & Adapters team, focusing on dbt Core. You will tackle high-leverage, system-level challenges within a small, trusted group that values autonomy and open-source collaboration.

You will work on performance, reliability, and architectural integrity of the engine, contributing to the adapter framework and supporting a distributed, remote-first culture.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software development experience in backend systems.
• Strong Python backend experience and Linux familiarity.
• Systematic, first-principles problem solving and ownership.
• Solid knowledge of database internals and query execution concepts.
• Excellent communication and ownership for iterative delivery.

Responsibilities

• Dive into the dbt-core execution engine to find and fix performance bottlenecks in Python.
• Architect and implement improvements to the adapter interface for databases and platforms.
• Debug complex system-level issues across Linux processes, concurrency, and networking.
• Lead technical design discussions and contribute to long-term architectural roadmaps for dbt Core.
• Mentor engineers and review community contributions to maintain code quality and standards.
• Own distributed systems, troubleshoot production issues, and participate in on-call rotations.
